Wonder Journals for the Freshman Academy

Students will each have Wonder Journals provided to them that they can decorate and make their own. We can pool a big supply of old magazines and art supplies for this activity, and I will come up with parameters for the journals. Essentially, everything they decorate it with must represent some part of themselves. This aligns directly with the district curriculum maps; the essential question for the year is: Who Am I? This journal fun will be great for the first few days of school and will help students feel more invested in their writing.

Weekly, students will write about one of the wonders related to language arts and share in class. Then, students will submit their wonders to me for selection. Based on criteria that we will develop together with the students, I will select one wonder from each class to display weekly. This student will be formally recognized for being wonder-full!
